Havana

Havana

This is Cuba’s Casanova. Pulsating bars. Classic Plymouth cars. Peeling colonial architecture. Nowhere has the same, smooth vibrations as Havana. It’s a rum lot – and then some.

Your Guide to Havana

Havana in Full Color

ne of the planet’s most enthralling cities. Visiting Havana is about finding your rhythm. The squawking habaneros at pavement bars. The loud, psychedelic street art or the whoosh of the waves on nearby knockout beaches. The idiosyncratic symphonies of its architecture, decked out in baroque, neoclassical and art deco frills. And the guitar-wielding street troubadours. This is life, illuminated. Need more reasons to charter a yacht? Here are three.

Your Guide to Havana

Playas Del Este

It reads like a cliché – diamond-clear waters, swaying palms, soft pearl-white sands – but this string of beaches is where the locals let loose. Located 10nm east of Havana, moor your Y.CO yacht near Playa Bacuranao and get out the toys. Kitesurfing, jet skiing, sun-worshipping. You can pick your own playtime. For divers, there are even two shipwrecks to see: SS Olivette and SS City of Alexandria.

Your Guide to Havana

La Bodeguita Del Medio

So you’re a literary sort, eh? Moor your Y.CO yacht in the harbour for a visit to this fabled bar, where Ernest Hemingway came to sink rums. With writing on the walls and old framed photos of celeb patrons, La Bodeguita is where the mojito was invented (or so they say). Even if a myth, it's sacrilege to visit Havana and not salute the author of The Old Man & The Sea with a tipple or two.

Your Guide to Havana

Plaza Del Cristo

Nowhere encapsulates the romance of Cuba like Plaza del Cristo, the currently en vogue square in Old Havana where the cool cats hang. It’s emphatic live music and piquant cocktails. Hang with the locals at El Chanchullero or watch singers pour their hearts out at El Patchanka. At the end of the night, head to Parroquial del Santo Cristo del Buen Viaje before heading back to the yacht. This church is where sailors traditionally prayed pre-voyage.
