One of the first towns founded in Cuba by Spanish colonisers in 1514, Trinidad boasts a fascinating historical heritage. Wander its colourful streets to take in colonial houses, neoclassical and baroque architecture and lively local life. Visit museums and the cathedral. Los Jardines de la Reina (the Queen's gardens) is an ecological protected area, teeming with marine life in well-conserved coral reefs and untouched waters. Known as the Galapagos of the Caribbean, this uninhabited wilderness boasts incredible diving with over 50 sites. Expect to encounter shark species including reef, silky, whale, hammerhead and bull, as well as groupers, barracuda and turtles among its reefs. Paradise on earth is Cayo Largo. 177 kilometres south of the underbelly of Havana province, Cayo Largo is the largest and easternmost of Cuba’s numerous coral cays. This glimmering stretch of land boasts some of the most gorgeous beaches, and the best snorkelling, in the whole of Cuba. Here, nature lovers can watch turtles nest on the beach and look for the flamingos, iguanas and tiny bee hummingbirds native to the island.

One of the most historic cities in Cuba and brimming with gorgeous neoclassical buildings, the capital of this central Cuban province boasts a picture perfect port bathed by the Caribbean sea. Called 'the pearl of the south', its French spirit has seduced travellers for centuries, and its spectacular natural harbour was designated a UNESCO world heritage site in 2005. Wander sophisticated streets, relax on fabulous beaches, or simply take in the soul of this French-Cuban jewel.

A peaceful resort of 18 huts perched on stilts across Treasure lake (Laguna del Tesoro), Boca de Guamá is designed as a recreation of a Taíno village. Take a boat trip across the lake or visit the crocodile farm.

Taking over the entire southern section of Matanzas province, Ciénaga de Zapata national park is a UNESCO-declared Biosphere Reserve rich in animal and bird life. its open swampland and dense forests are home to wildlife including wild boar, mongoose, iguana, crocodile and owls. Its 30+ kilometres of coastline remain untouched and largely undiscovered by tourists, and its crystal clear waters are excellent for diving, with coral reefs and flooded caves (‘cenotes’) easy to explore from the shore. also a great spot for fishing and hiking. Depart from Cienaga de Zapata National Park after breakfast and cruise to the coast where you will be greeted by a driver who will transfer you across land by car to Cuba’s cultural heart, Havana.
