Cyclades without the crowds

A Slice of Floating Heaven

Shhh! Syros is a slice of heaven floating between Tinos and Mykonos. Which modern tourism hasn’t discovered. ‘The Cyclades without the Crowds’ is Greece in miniature. It has a theatre modelled on La Scala. Its tiny airport serves a single destination: a propeller plane flight to Athens.

Your Guide to Syros

Straight Out of a 19th-century Opera

Novelist Anthony Horowitz described Syros’s main harbour of Ermoupoli. "A world straight out of a 19th-century opera with little traffic and no tacky tourist shops to spoil the illusion". He isn’t wrong. Syros is lined with Venetian and Ottoman townhouses. These host contemporary galleries on one storey, restaurants downstairs and cafés out front. Orthodox and Catholic cathedrals crown an island that had its last hurrah in the 19th century. Its population of 20,000 (half that of Monaco) has barely grown since.

Clear Azure Aegean

Syros is made for charter yachts. Circle its 79km coastline. The azure Aegean is so clear you can see the bottom wherever you position. Caves, coves and cliffs can be accessed with kayaks, kitesurfs and climbing boots. A favourite Y.CO beach is Kini. It’s a silverine sliver of sand. Backed by white cube houses. With blue taverna chairs sprinkled along the bay.

Unfettered Adventure

Hungry for more? Syros is action-packed. Take an ecotourism photography class to snap migrating birds and mountain hares. Undertake a foraging expedition to find wild beans and edible flowers. Cook only-in-Syros dishes with locals like kaparosalata, a zinging caper-lemon salad.

A memory to last a lifetime? Your Y.CO Charter Specialist will arrange a beginner's horse trek between historic villages. Which ends in a deserted Aegean beach for a bareback ride into the sea. That’s Syros. Unfettered adventure on a plate.
