Pig Beach

Sun. Sea. Pigs.

Can’t Fly, Will Swim

Sun, sea and pigs. It’s what the best Bahamian yacht charters are made of. Indeed, Big Major Cay is home to some 25 swimming swine. How did they end up there? No one really knows, but they’ve achieved celebrity status in The Exumas by being so friendly – and gluttonous. Position your Y.CO superyacht just off Pig Beach and have the crew launch the tenders. Just don’t forget the carrots.

Reasons to Visit Pig Beach

So Much to Do

There’s a lot happening around Pig Beach. Once you’ve ticked off the main attraction, there’s nearby Thunderball Grotto, a cave system so full of marine life they call it ‘the aquarium’. Besides that, the water around these cays is perfect for playing with your superyacht’s toys. Last one on the jetfoiler buys lunch at Staniel Cay Yacht Club! But that’s just the start: here’s why Pig Beach is the perfect backdrop to your yacht charter.

More Than Just Hogs

A happy morning is spent playing with the pigs (it’s fine to pet them, as long as you’re gentle). Then, once you’re done with your new hooved friends, there’s other wildlife to enjoy. Maybe start off in the water with nurse sharks, turtles and rays before heading to the top of the beach to spot the resident Exuma Island iguanas.

Go to the Grotto

James Bond buffs will know that scenes in Thunderball (and Never Say Never) were shots in a dazzling network of water caves near Pig Beach. Thunderball Grotto – as it’s now called – is also known to offer some of the best diving and snorkelling in The Exumas. Have your crew tender you over and then watch as yellow-tail snappers and angel fish eat food straight from your hand.

Big Major Day

While it’s ‘population – zero’ on Big Major Cay, neighbouring Staniel Cay is abuzz with bars, restaurants and a storied yacht club. After a day with the pigs, anchor your Y.CO Pig Beach charter yacht in the marina and head straight for the club’s sun terrace for quality rum punch and a local lobster. If you see multi-coloured cottages you’re headed in the right direction.
