Hvar

Hvar

St Tropez au naturel

Croatia's St Tropez.

Hvar is Croatia’s St Tropez. A jet set fishing village where superyachts and sunglasses are statement pieces. Movie star looks include Venetian streets and private beaches. A-listers strut past with sunny abandon. Indeed with 2,800 hours of annual sunshine, Hvar is Croatia’s sunniest - and chicest - spot. Welcome to the party.

Your Guide to Hvar

Partying. Landscapes. Culture.

After dark Hvar dances to a different tune. Le beau monde stumble from private yachts to piazzas. Alfresco clubs host swing chairs, cocktails-in-coconuts and pulse-popping tunes. Carpe Diem is a reservation-only club. Set inside a Venetian loggia, it stocks Dom Pérignon millesime 2000 and sets shots of rum aflame on its bar. It’s all hands in the air.

Landscapes & Lagoons

Like St Tropez, Hvar is luscious as well as licentious. Waves of olive groves and lavender fields make for telegenic bike rides. (Not to mention wicked aperitifs.) Scented trails lead to secluded beach clubs like Robinson’s. There's zero electricity. But a resident Man Friday will still fix you frutti di mare and Hvar’s own gregada seafood stew. Your tender will whisk you back on board at sunset - or straight to the island’s nighttime action.

Croatia's Best Partying

The Hvar afterparty is as gentle as the landscape. Mocktails fuel kayak tours of the island’s 250km coastline. A lagoon hides easy-to-dive shipwrecks like the Paulina, a British merchantman lost 150 years ago to seagrass and coral. In-the-know captains cruise the short distance to Sveti Klement. Croatian botanist Eugene Meneghello carpented the island with eucalyptus, cactus and mimosa. Naturists and as well as naturists enjoy its anything-goes ethos. Missing the party? Fear not. Carpe Diem installed a private beach club right across the bay.
