Exploring French Polynesia

Edge of the Map Aboard JeMaSa

From the air, Fakarava appears as a thin crescent of coral cupping a turquoise lagoon. And there, anchored just off the runway, was JeMaSa. “Even from the air, she stood out — an oasis of calm in this remote, beautiful wilderness.” Recalls Fleur, Y.CO Charter Specialist.

A Yacht Reborn for Adventure

At 52 metres, JeMaSa is built for far horizons. Fresh from a transformative rebuild on Australia’s Gold Coast in 2025, she offers the capabilites of an expedition platform, with all benefits of a luxury retreat — a yacht designed for families and friends who want to go further without leaving comfort behind.

Inside, designer Misha Merzliakov has created a light, organic aesthetic: soft neutral tones, natural textures, and an easy connection to the sea. Seven flexible cabins, a cinema room, a gym, and a wellness space with sauna and cold-plunge pool give guests the freedom to unwind or gear up for a day of exploration. Outside, the decks stretch out for dining, lounging, and moonlit cinema nights.

“She really is the best of both worlds,” Fleur says. “You feel the reassurance of her strength, but also this sense of harmony with the surroundings.”

Crossing the Passes

For all her beauty, JeMaSa’s real character comes alive in motion. The Tuamotu Archipelago isn’t for the faint-hearted — hundreds of atolls scattered across the Pacific, each surrounded by challenging passes where tides collide with open ocean swell.

“Between atolls, the sea can get wild,” Fleur explains. “The swell builds, the passes churn — but JeMaSa handled it all with absolute ease. We’d often lift anchor at night to cross between islands, and you’d wake up in the morning already anchored somewhere new, barely aware you’d been moving.”

It’s this effortless capability that defines JeMaSa’s explorer spirit: adventure without compromise.

“There’s a sense of stability and safety by her stature, she’s a powerful explorer, but also incredibly peaceful — her design has this beautiful balance between strength and femininity.”

A Day in the Life

Life aboard settled into a rhythm that was both energising and restorative. Fleur kept a diary throughout, a snapshot of what a perfect day aboard might look like.

“Most mornings I’d wake naturally around 6 a.m. The crew already knew everyone’s coffee order — mine would appear almost magically — and I’d sit watching the sun rise over the lagoon.”

There’d be freshly baked muffins (a new flavour every day), then the first dive of the morning: “One day we came across a tiger shark gliding along the reef. She had no interest in us — just going about her day. It was exhilarating.”

Breakfast followed — fresh sourdough, fruit, pastries, and Fleur’s favourite: the truffle omelette. “Then maybe a quick e-foil lesson with the crew before taking the helicopter to a remote, uninhabited atoll for a picnic. It was truly the most idyllic island I’ve ever seen — totally untouched, the colours unreal.”

Evenings might mean a floating bar set up near the beach, cocktails at sunset, dinner back on board, and a cinema under the stars. “That’s the magic of JeMaSa: every day felt different, but it always ended with that same sense of awe.”

Crew, Comfort and Character

Fleur is quick to credit JeMaSa’s crew for much of what made the experience exceptional. “They’ve perfected the art of high-end service while keeping things genuine and down to earth. You feel completely looked after, but never over-managed. It’s exactly the kind of atmosphere you want on a yacht that takes you to the edge of the map.”

The interiors reinforce that same balance of comfort and adventure. “There’s a calmness to the way she’s been designed,” she says. “Natural tones, soft textures — everything feels connected to the environment outside.”

It’s a design language that works as well in the wild lagoons of the Tuamotus as it will in JeMaSa’s next destinations — Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea. Throughout the South Pacific, and beyond.

Moments that Stay With You

When asked which memories stayed longest, Fleur doesn’t hesitate. “Flying into Fakarava and seeing JeMaSa there, ready just for us. Knowing how remote it is, how few people ever get to see this part of the world, and to experience it from one of the best yachts on the planet — that was life-affirming.”

Her admiration for the crew runs through every recollection; the thoughtful details, the quiet confidence. “They make you feel safe enough to try new things — whether it’s diving with sharks or learning to foil board — and that’s what makes it such an empowering experience.”

For Families Who Want It All

As a charter broker, Fleur also came away with a new appreciation for JeMaSa’s versatility. With seven cabins, including convertible twins and flexible day-beds, she’s ideal for extended families or groups of friends. “She’s particularly well suited to families with children and teenagers,” she notes. “There’s space to spread out, and the lower-deck saloon can even be turned into a classroom for remote learning. You can have one group diving while another chills in the Jacuzzi — everything runs at your pace.”

And the toybox? “Endless,” she laughs. “Jet skis, e-foils, waterskis, seabobs, electric surfboards, kite and wing setups, diving and fishing gear — you name it. There’s never a dull moment.”

Inspiring. Adventurous. Exhilarating.

Those are the three words Fleur finally settles on to describe her time aboard JeMaSa. And they fit.

Because while JeMaSa may have been reborn on the Gold Coast, her spirit belongs out here — in the lagoons, reefs, and vast blue spaces where adventure still feels wild.

Fleur’s leaves us with her final thoughts on JeMaSa, describing her as “a platform for discovery — a home for people who want to experience the world at its most beautiful and remote, without ever feeling removed from comfort. That’s what makes JeMaSa so special.”
