Captain Tim sees it on every charter: “Charterers, for sure, use the sun deck the most”, he says, noting how they are drawn to a space that is elevated above the waterline and thoughtfully arranged for long hours spent outdoors. Whether looking to unwind at the end of the day or keeping up on the live sports events, Captain Tim sees the sun deck as the place to be. “You can actually be in the Jacuzzi or sat in front of it with the big cinema screen in front of you”, he says. “That’s a lovely thing for evenings. You can stick the kids on the lounger watching movies and the adults can sit in the Jacuzzi.”

When asked what excites the crew most on charter, Captain Tim doesn’t hesitate. “Any big party” he laughs.
Whether for birthdays, romantic candlelit evenings, fancy dress parties or even a July 4th party, Captain Tim highlights the memorable bespoke events the crew curate on board. “All of the games come out,” Tim explains, and when it comes to dressing up, the crew always come prepared, “we keep a lot of wigs and things like that on board”. It’s exactly the kind of occasion where, as he puts it, the team “flex their creativity when it comes to providing these experiences and little touches”.
Beyond the Swim Ladder
Along with diving into warm Mediterranean waters, Jems offers a full selection of water sports for the whole family. With years of experience, Captain Tim knows the best places to go. “I love North Sardinia,” he says, “and I love South Corsica”, both dotted with quaint spots to escape the crowds with calm waters and panoramic anchorages. Another favourite for Captain Tim is the Aeolian Islands, which provide ideal cruising grounds for charter on Jems with short hops between islands delivering new scenery day after day.
Drawn to itineraries that look beyond the obvious, he suggests visiting destinations such as Ischia and Ponza off the west coast of Italy to experience the quieter waters and characterful villages. With Jems’ quick cruising speed and stable chase boat, it is possible to visit more of the coastline in a single charter, with greater access to secluded beaches and caves along the way.
