This private island has amassed an extensive history. Bought in 1875 from the British Crown it was originally intended for farming land, when the land proved unfruitful it was sold and converted to a paradise garden with imported peacocks, turkeys, parrots and igunanas. The island was shared with guests, charging $1 a head to arrive by boat.
In WWII the Allies requisitioned th eisland for a year as a secret training base. 3 teams of British and American underwater demolition squads were stationed here to train and swim miles around the island every day. These days the Blue Lagoon is owned by a private family committed to preserving traditions and native bahamaian wildlife.
Blue Lagoon Island combines wildlife encounters with a private island setting, allowing guests to experience native Bahamian marine life while enjoying the natural beauty and tranquillity of the surrounding lagoon.
Depending on the activities selected, guests may have the opportunity to interact with dolphins and sea lions, as well as snorkel alongside sharks and stingrays in carefully managed environments.

Swimwear, sun protection and a towel are recommended. A camera is also a great addition for capturing the island's scenery and memorable wildlife encounters.
The island has a fascinating past, having served as farmland, a private garden paradise and even a secret Allied training base during the Second World War before becoming the wildlife-focused destination it is today.
Its sheltered waters, natural beauty and variety of wildlife experiences make it an enjoyable day ashore, while its location allows guests to easily incorporate it into a wider Bahamas cruising itinerary.
It can be both. While many guests visit for the wildlife encounters, the island's beaches, calm waters and tropical surroundings also make it an appealing place to unwind and enjoy the day.
The amount of time spent ashore can vary depending on the activities chosen. Many guests enjoy spending several hours on the island, combining wildlife encounters with time to explore and relax.
For many guests, it's the opportunity to enjoy close encounters with Bahamian wildlife in a beautiful island setting. Whether swimming with dolphins, snorkelling in crystal-clear waters or simply enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, it's an experience that appeals to guests of all ages.
